Todd's Canopies
Custom Canopies
An example of a first time custom canopy and the builder's comments on receipt
My definition of a custom canopy is a canopy I haven't made before. Here are all the ways I've made custom canopies:
Full scale 3-view diagrams
Builders have sent me canopy frames, and I've made a canopy to fit it.
Builders have told me where I can go and see a canopy installed on an aircraft.
Builders have sent me a cracked canopy. In one case the canopy was in three pieces. I reproduced a perfect canopy for the customer.
I've been sent shapes made of fiberglass, foam, and plaster of paris. I, of course, reproduced the size and shape in clear plastic.
Builders have given me a few rough hand sketches, some dimensions and a lot of verbal descriptions. With that I've produced a canopy they loved.
I am also willing to form plastic for products other than canopies. I've put optically perfect compound curves in plastic up to one inch thick.
